A German play with music by Kurt Weill and Georg Kaiser, subtitled a winter's fairy tale. A starving man named Severin is shot by a policeman for stealing food, and the guilt-stricken officer, newly rich from a lottery win, takes him in to make amends. It was banned by the Nazis weeks after its 1933 premiere.
