Tolkien's novels, the musical follows the hobbit Frodo Baggins as he carries a dangerous ring across Middle-earth to destroy it, joined by elves, dwarves and other companions along the way. It premiered in Toronto in 2006 with a cast of 65, a book by Shaun McKenna and Matthew Warchus, and music by A.R. Rahman and the Finnish group Varttina.
