The Frogs is Stephen Sondheim and Burt Shevelove's adaptation of the ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes. The god Dionysos travels to the underworld to bring back a great playwright, hoping art can save a troubled world, and stages a contest between George Bernard Shaw and William Shakespeare to decide who returns with him. The 1974 premiere was staged by the Yale Repertory Theatre in the Yale University swimming pool, with much of the action performed in and around the water.
