Music Leonard Bernstein·Lyrics Richard Wilbur (with John Latouche, Dorothy Parker, and others)·Book Lillian Hellman (original); Hugh Wheeler (1974 revision)
A comic operetta with music by Leonard Bernstein, based on Voltaire's 1759 satire. It follows the naive young Candide, raised to believe this is the best of all possible worlds, as he travels the globe through war, disaster, and the loss of his beloved Cunegonde, and slowly learns otherwise.
