Start ratingThe musical follows Georgina, a Black woman whose story runs from the early 1900s through the 1960s while she herself stays twenty five, tracing her rise from domestic work toward stardom against the civil rights struggle. Her mother, fiance and best friend age the same way. It opened on Broadway in 1967 with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Comden and Green.
