Purple Rain

A stage version of Prince's 1984 film, set in the Minneapolis club scene of the early 1980s. It follows the Kid, a young musician playing First Avenue, who is dealing with an abusive father at home and a rival bandleader at the club while his own band comes apart. The score uses Prince's songs, and the book by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins adds scenes for the women in the story.
