Cabaret is a musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb set in 1929-1930 Berlin as the Nazis rise to power. Much of the action plays out at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, presided over by an Emcee, and centers on American writer Cliff Bradshaw and English cabaret singer Sally Bowles. It is based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin stories.
