A Chorus Line takes place during an audition for a Broadway show, where a director asks the dancers to talk about their lives. Through monologues, songs, and dance, the performers reveal their backgrounds and reasons for dancing as they compete for a spot in the chorus. Most of the action happens on a bare stage.
