A musical set in the Five Points slum of New York City in 1863, where Black Americans and Irish immigrants live, work, and intermarry. As the Civil War and the federal draft strain the neighborhood, racial and economic tensions build toward the deadly draft riots. The score draws on the songs of Stephen Foster.
