Based on Neil Simon's 1977 screenplay, single mother Paula is forced to share her New York apartment with Elliot, a struggling actor who has sublet it. They gradually fall in love, which worries Paula's young daughter Lucy, who fears Elliot will leave the way her mother's other boyfriends have.
