A musical with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, set in 1962 Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad, a plus-size teenager who loves to dance, wins a spot on a local TV dance show and uses her sudden fame to push for racial integration on the air. Songs draw on the rhythm and blues sound of the early 1960s.
